Meet Alex

Your adventure guide

As a proud Northern Rivers local, Explore Ability owner Alex grew up on a macadamia farm, which instilled in him a deep appreciation for hard work and community. His career has been diverse, reflecting his passion for growth, leadership, and supporting others.

Alex—in his 30s with a growing family—started Explore Ability to share his passion for camping and outdoor adventures, with people who have never had the chance—or the capacity or support—to experience these adventures. He wanted to create opportunities for them to enjoy nature, build confidence, and achieve things they might have thought were out of reach.

Alex began his career as a high-level gymnastics coach and judge, fostering discipline and confidence in young athletes. Later, he owned and operated a local small business, gaining invaluable business management experience. Along the way, Alex worked on farms and managed various businesses, further strengthening his ability to adapt and lead in different environments.

Alex is a Registered Nurse working for NSW Health, with his AHPRA registration earned through Southern Cross University. His healthcare journey has been dedicated to providing compassionate, trauma-informed care and supporting people with complex needs.

Previously, Alex served as a Support Coordination Team Leader at an out-of-home care agency, where he led a team of support coordinators across Australia while managing his own complex caseload. His experience spans working with individuals with autism, foetal alcohol spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, brain injuries, and more. He also trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention 7 (TCI 7), equipping him with advanced skills to manage and de-escalate crises while supporting the emotional well-being of individuals.

With a foundation in trauma-informed care, TCI training, and extensive management qualifications, Alex is passionate about creating meaningful opportunities for people of all abilities to thrive.
